In 2019, under Dr. Taylor’s leadership as the Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) Board President, the District outpaced the state averages for student growth.

She worked to shepherd a balanced budget and exited from financial state oversight.

Dr. Taylor has played an integral part to establish district policies that support critical systems, processes, and a supportive culture for the DPSCD community.

More than 20 schools being selected for possible closure prior the Superintendent’s appointment, Dr. Taylor worked with then State of Michigan Superintendent to implement a school improvement plan that prevented any school closures while she was the Board President.

From crisis to triumph, Dr. Taylor led the District through restoring clean drinking water to all DPSCD schools.

While Board President, she led the first-of-its-kind cradle to college campus opening at The School at Marygrove.
